Everything You Need to Know About DMSO, My Deep Relief Herbal Roll-On, and Why I Chose These Ingredients

Over the past few weeks, I've received hundreds of questions about my Deep Relief Herbal Roll-On. Many of you have asked what DMSO is, how it works, whether it's safe, what it's mixed with, if it can be used for arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, torn ligaments, burns, or even acne.

Instead of answering the same questions over and over, I wanted to put everything in one place.

First, I want to be very clear.

I am a herbalist, not a medical doctor.

Everything I share is based on my own research, my experience as an herbalist, the scientific literature I've read, and what has worked for myself, my family, and many of my customers. None of this is meant to diagnose, treat, cure, or replace the advice of your healthcare provider.

Whenever you're considering trying a new product—whether it's mine or someone else's—please do your own research and consult your healthcare provider, especially if you're pregnant, nursing, have medical conditions, or take prescription medications.

What Is DMSO?

DMSO stands for Dimethyl Sulfoxide.

It was originally discovered as a byproduct of the wood pulp industry but quickly gained attention because of one very unique characteristic:

It passes through the skin extremely well.

That ability has made DMSO interesting to researchers for decades. It has been studied for its ability to carry substances through the skin and for its own anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Because it absorbs so readily, people use extra caution with DMSO.

Why Does Everyone Say Your Skin Has To Be Clean?

This is probably the most common question I've received.

Because DMSO can carry substances through the skin, it's important to apply it to clean, dry skin.

That means avoiding:

  • Perfumes
  • Lotions
  • Sunscreen
  • Dirty or greasy skin
  • Chemical residues
  • Recently applied topical products

Simply washing the area with a gentle soap and water, rinsing well, and drying completely is generally recommended before application.

What About Medications?

Another common question.

If you take prescription medications, have chronic health conditions, or have concerns about interactions, talk with your healthcare provider before using products containing DMSO.

Since DMSO has unique absorption properties, it's important to understand how it may fit into your own healthcare plan.

Does DMSO Thin the Blood?

People ask this constantly.

DMSO has been studied for many different effects in the body, but I don't tell people it "thins the blood."

If you're taking blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder, this is exactly the type of question you should discuss with your healthcare provider before using any product containing DMSO.

Can Diabetics Use It?

I've had several people ask about diabetic neuropathy.

Everyone's situation is different.

Because diabetes can affect circulation, nerve function, skin healing, and medications, I always recommend talking with your healthcare provider before trying any new topical product.

Can It Help Arthritis?

This may be the number one question I've received.

Many people use products containing DMSO for temporary relief from sore muscles, stiff joints, and everyday aches.

Some customers have told me they've found it helpful for arthritis discomfort.

That doesn't mean it works for everyone, and I never promise that it will.

Everyone responds differently.

Torn Ligaments? Tendons? Muscle Pain?

I've received questions about knees, shoulders, neck pain, sports injuries, pulled muscles, and more.

While I can't promise results, these are exactly the kinds of everyday discomforts many customers choose to use my Deep Relief Herbal Roll-On for.

Burns and Frostbite

Several people have asked because I shared my own experience after burning my hand.

That video was simply me sharing my personal experience.

It was not medical advice or instructions for everyone to do the same thing.

Burns and frostbite vary greatly in severity, so if you have a significant injury, seek appropriate medical care.

Can It Be Used For Acne?

Another interesting question.

Since DMSO can increase absorption through the skin, using it over acne or infected skin isn't something I recommend without first researching the topic and discussing it with a healthcare professional.

Sulfa Allergy

I've also received questions about sulfa allergies.

Although DMSO contains sulfur, it is not the same thing as sulfonamide ("sulfa") antibiotics.

That said, if you have a history of allergies or sensitivities, it's always wise to discuss new products with your healthcare provider before using them.

Can You Drink It?

No.

My Deep Relief Herbal Roll-On is made as a topical product only.

It is not intended for oral use.

Always use products according to their labeled directions.

What's Actually In Your Deep Relief Herbal Roll-On?

I believe in being transparent about my ingredients.

The Deep Relief Herbal Roll-On contains:

  • DMSO
  • Castor Oil
  • Dandelion
  • Yarrow
  • Calendula
  • Black Seed Oil
  • Cayenne
  • Beeswax

Each ingredient was chosen intentionally based on my own research and herbal experience.

What I do not share are my proprietary formulation ratios.

Just like many companies protect their recipes, Naturally Inspirational protects the exact percentages and process used to make our products.

Why Don't You Share The Recipe?

I've had people ask why I won't publish the exact formula.

The answer is simple.

This is a business.

I've spent years researching herbs, testing different combinations, improving formulations, and investing time and money into developing products I'm proud of.

I'm happy to teach.

I'm happy to educate.

I'm happy to explain why I chose certain ingredients.

But I don't publicly give away the exact formulation that makes Naturally Inspirational unique.

That doesn't mean I'm hiding anything.

It means I'm protecting the work I've built.

But Didn't You Say You'd Make It For Everyone?

Yes—and I did.

Originally, I created this formula for my own family.

After seeing how well it worked for us, so many people asked if I would make it available for them too.

That's exactly what I meant.

Making it available to purchase is very different from publishing the proprietary recipe.

Final Thoughts

My mission has always been simple:

To educate people about herbs.

To encourage people to ask questions.

To help others learn.

And to create products I personally believe in.

I never want anyone to purchase something simply because I said so.

I want you to ask questions.

Read.

Research.

Learn.

Talk with your healthcare provider when appropriate.

Then make the decision that's right for you.

Thank you to everyone who has asked thoughtful questions, shared experiences, and supported Naturally Inspirational along the way.

I truly appreciate every one of you.
